As it was in the time of Moses the Lord, before Moses died, was commanded by the Lord to prepare Joshua as successor to continue the work.

 

Deuteronomy 34:7,5 and 9

"And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eyes were not dimmed, neither did he lose his strength. And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel obeyed him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses."

 

In the time of King David, the same thing happened. He left his son Solomon in his stead to continue the work by God's decree.

 

1 Chronicles 22:5,6,7 and 11

"And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for the LORD shall be excellent, for a name and for honor in all lands: now therefore I will prepare for him that which is needful. And David prepared before his death in great abundance. And David called for Solomon his son, and commanded him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel. And David said to Solomon, My son, it was in my heart to build a house for the name of the LORD my God. Now therefore, my son, may the LORD be with thee, and prosper thee, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee."

 

1st Kings 2:1 to 4

"And when David's days were come to die, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, I will go the way of all the earth: be strong, and be a man. Keep the charge of the LORD thy God, walking in his ways, and keeping his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest be blessed in all that thou doest, and in all that thou turnest unto; That the LORD may establish the word which he spake unto me, saying, If thy children keep his way, walking before me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee a man of the throne of Israel, saith he."

 

1 Kings 1:32 to 34

"And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came in before the king. And the king said unto them, Take with you your lord's servants, and bring up Solomon my son upon my mule, and carry him to Gihon: and there shall Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel; and ye shall blow the trumpet, saying, Long live king Solomon!"

 

1st Kings 1:39 and 35

"And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon: and they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, 'Long live King Solomon! Afterward you shall go after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, and he shall reign for my sake; for him have I ordained to be prince over Israel and over Judah."

 

1st Chronicles 29:22 to 24 and 28

"And they did eat and drink before the LORD that day with great joy: and they gave the second time the endowment of the kingdom to Solomon the son of David, and anointed him unto the LORD to be ruler, and Zadok to be priest. And Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him. And all the princes and the mighty men, and all the sons of king David, did king Solomon homage. And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and glory: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead."

 

In the same way it happened with our Father Israel, who not wanting to leave us abandoned and orphaned, leaves a successor to continue the work of our God. 

 

Hosea 3:4,5

"For many days shall the children of Israel be without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without sacrifice, and without statue, and without ephod, and without teraphim. Then shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and they shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days."

 

Jeremiah 33:17

"For thus saith the LORD; There shall not fail David a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel."

 

Isaiah 11:1

"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stump of Jesse, and a shoot shall spring out of his roots."

 

Job 14:7

"For if the tree be cut down, yet shall there be hope of him: he shall yet sprout, and his branches shall not fail."

 

Psalm 80:15

"And the plant which thy right hand hath planted, And the branch which thou hast established for thyself."
