Idolatry

 

 

Wisdom 14:12 and 27

"From the invention of idols followed immorality; it was something that destroyed life. The worship of idols that are nothing is the beginning, cause and end of all evil:"

 

Exodus 20: 3 to 5

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that 

is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself 

unto them, nor serve them: for I am the LORD thy God, the LORD thy God, the mighty jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth, upon them that hate me."

 

Psalm 96:5

"For all the gods of the peoples are idols: but the LORD made the heavens."

 

Isaiah 2:8

"Moreover their land is full of idols, and to the work of their hands they have bowed down, to that which their fingers have 

made."

 

2 Corinthians 6:16

"And what is the temple of God in concert with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God, as God said, I will dwell and walk in them; and I will be the temple of the living God. I will dwell and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my 

people."

 

Ezekiel 14:6

"Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Turn ye, and turn from your idols, and turn away your faces

Acts 15:19,20

"Wherefore I judge, that they which from the Gentiles are turned to God should not be troubled, but write unto them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from drowning, and from blood."

 

Isaiah 44:9

"The formers of graven images, all of them are vanity, and their most precious things are of no avail; and they themselves to

 their own confusion are witnesses, which they neither see nor understand."

Isaiah 2:20 and 15

"In that day shall a man cast down to the moles and bats his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which they made for him to 

worship; And upon every high tower, and upon every strong wall;"

 

Isaiah 30:22

"Then thou shalt profane the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the garment of thy emptiness of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous rag: come out! You shall say to them, "Go out!

 

Psalm 97:7

"Let all they be ashamed that serve graven images, Let them be ashamed that praise idols: let all the gods bow down to him."

 

Micah 1:7

"And all their graven images shall be broken in pieces, and all their gifts shall be burned with fire, and I will make all their idols desolate: for he hath gathered them together of the gifts of harlots, and unto the gifts of harlots shall they return."

 

1 Corinthians 8:4 to 6

"Now concerning the food sacrificed to idols, we know that the idol is nothing in the world, and that there is but one God. For 

though there be some that are called gods, either in heaven, or in earth (as there are many gods and many lords), Yet we have but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him: and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by 

him."

 

Isaiah 44:9 to 18

"The makers of graven images, all of them are vanity, and their most precious thing is of no profit; and they themselves to 

their own confusion are witnesses, which they neither see nor understand. Who hath made a god, or who hath set up a graven 

image, which is of no profit? profitable? Behold, all their companions shall be ashamed, for they are the very makers of men. 

They shall all be gathered together, they shall stand, they shall be astonished, and shall be put to shame together. The smith 

shall take the tongs, and work in the coals, and fashion it with the hammers, and work at it with the strength of his arm: then he is hungry, and his strength faileth him; he will not drink water, and he faints. The carpenter lays out the ruler, marks it out with vinegar, cleans it with the brushes, shapes it with the compass, and makes it in the form of a man, in the likeness of a the shape of a man, in the likeness of a handsome man, to be at home. He shall cut down cedars, and take oaks and cork oaks, 

and among the trees of the forest shall he labor; he shall plant pines, which shall grow with the rain. And a man shall use them for burning, and shall take of them for warmth; he shall also kindle an oven, and bake bread: he shall also make a god, and worship him; he shall make an idol, and kneel before it, and worship it. He shall make an idol, and bow down before it. Part of the wood shall he burn in the fire; with part of it he shall eat flesh, and roast it, and be satisfied; And he shall warm himself, and say, Oh, I have warmed myself, I have seen the fire; And he shall turn his remnant into a god, into his graven image; and he shall humble himself before it, and worship it, and pray to it, saying, Deliver me, for thou art my god. They neither knew nor understood: for their eyes are blinded, that they cannot see, and their heart that they cannot understand."

 

Hosea 13:4

"But I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt: therefore thou shalt know no God beside me, neither any Saviour but me."

 

What will these images do?

 

Isaiah 19:1

"The burden of Egypt. Behold, the Lord rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it."

 

We are only to fear the LORD of hosts.

 

Deuteronomy 10:20

"The LORD thy God shalt thou fear, him shalt thou serve, him shalt thou cleave unto, and by his name shalt thou swear."

 

Malachi 3:18

"Then shall ye turn and see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not."

 

God will make a difference with his children

 

Exodus 11:7

"But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that 

the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel."

 

Isaiah 56:10,11

"Their watchmen blind are they, all of them ignorant; all of them dumb dogs, they cannot bark; drowsy, lying down, they love 

to sleep."

 

Philippians 3:2

"Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of cutting off."

 

Matthew 7:6

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine; lest they dash them in pieces with their

feet, and come again and tear you in pieces."

 

Revelation 22:15

"But dogs shall be without, and sorcerers, and dissolute, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a

lie."

 

Romans 2:17,28,29

"Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."

 

Zechariah 8:23

"Thus saith the LORD of hosts: In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men of all the languages of the nations shall clutch the skirt of a Jew, saying, We will go with you; for we have heard that God is with you."
